Highlights of Q1 2022

  • In the first quarter of 2022, Chinese smartphone shipments fell 19% year-on-year and 12% qoq to 73.7 million units.
  • HONOR continued to outperform the market with sales growth of 190% YoY and 4% QoQ in the first quarter of 2022. HONOR led the market in the quarter, capturing a 20% market share.
  • OPPO (including Oneplus) ranked second in Q1 2022 with 13.7 million units.
  • Apple slipped to third place in the first quarter of 2022 with 13 million units. Though Apple's shipments were down compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, Apple still posted 11% year-over-year growth, driven by strong demand for the iPhone 13 series.
  • vivo slipped to fourth place, down 42% year-on-year and 9% qoq to 12.5 million units in the first quarter of 2022.

Highlights of Q3 2020

  • Smartphone sales in China slowly recovered with 6% qoq growth in Q3. But growth was still down 14% year over year.
  • Xiaomi outperformed the market as the only major OEM to post positive year-over-year growth in China in the third quarter.

Highlights of Q4 2019

  • China's smartphone market declinedfor the 10th consecutive quarter in the fourth quarter of 2019. The decline is expected to continue in the coming quartersdue to the impact of nCoV. The top 5 OEMs captured 90% of the total market in the quarter, compared to 87% a year ago. This is an indication of the ongoing consolidation in the market.
  • Huawei(including HONOR) leads the Chinese smartphone market, capturing over a third of the total smartphone shipments. The OEM has focused its efforts on the domestic market following the trade ban, which has helped it post 12% year-on-year growth in the region. China now accounts for 60% of Huawei's global shipments.
  • Oppo(19% YoY),Vivo(11% YoY) andXiaomi(8% year over year) all declined during the quarter. Amid the declining domestic market, OEMs have expanded overseas to seek growth.
  • Applegrew 6% YoY, driven by the popularity of the iPhone 11 series, which was the firstIPhonewith two cameras and at a lower price than its predecessor.
  • China led the global 5G marketContributed to over 67% of total 5G shipments in Q4 2019. This was driven by Huawei (including HONOR) which shipped over 6 million 5G devices in the region in the quarter alone.

Highlights of Q3 2019
